I’m Dr Charlotte Russell, a clinical psychologist and founder of The Travel Psychologist. I offer expert contributions, psychological consultation, and collaboration with brands that align with my values. On this page you’ll find out more about what I can offer if you’re a media outlet, brand or organisation.

About Dr Charlotte Russell

I’m a clinical psychologist (BSc, MSc, ClinPsyD), writer, and founder of The Travel Psychologist, a blog that combines psychology and travel.

With thousands of therapy hours under my belt, I bring deep clinical experience to every collaboration. I’m highly attuned to people, context, and emotion because that’s the ‘bread and butter’ of my clinical work. I’ve spent years refining how to apply psychology in real-world settings, from trauma therapy to media storytelling.

I regularly provide expert commentary for national press and broadcast media, offering thoughtful, accurate insights on topics ranging from mental health and trauma to travel wellbeing and emotional resilience. Collaborations have included The BBC, The Guardian, Metro, National Geographic and the LA Times. For more, see my in the media page.

Journalists often tell me I’m insightful, easy to brief, and a pleasure to work with. I take pride in contributing to stories that have depth, nuance, and integrity.

If you’re looking for a collaborator who can bring psychological expertise to your feature, campaign, or conversation, with warmth, clarity, and care, I’d love to hear from you.

What I can comment and consult on

As a clinical psychologist with a BSc, MSc, and ClinPsyD, I can speak confidently on most topics related to adult mental health and clinical psychology. My specialist areas include:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety and emotional regulation
  • Self-esteem
  • Personal growth
  • Burnout, resilience and recovery

I also offer expert insight into the psychology of travel, including:

  • The psychological benefits of travel
  • Travel and mental health
  • Wellbeing and emotional resilience on the road
  • Travel and relationships
  • Navigating travel challenges (e.g. disappointment, anxiety, culture shock)

More than anything, I love being asked to apply psychology in new and unexpected ways. Whether it’s a feature on seasonal rituals, the emotional impact of architecture, or the psychology behind packing lists. Give me a little time to reflect, and I’ll almost always find something meaningful to say.

Audience insights

The Travel Psychologist attracts a thoughtful, values-driven audience interested in personal growth, travel, and wellbeing. We currently welcome around 8,000 active users per month, with growing direct traffic, suggesting brand trust and resonance.

Our readership spans globally, with over 30% based in the UK and 25% in the US. Our most engaged audience closely mirrors our contributors: women (75%) aged 25–55, who are highly educated, professionally driven, and deeply invested in wellbeing, psychology, and personal growth.

While our platform is intentionally small and slow-growing, it’s built on trust and authenticity. We prioritise quality over quantity, and that’s reflected in how readers respond to our guides, reflections, and collaborations.

We have a Domain Authority (DA) of 40 — a reflection of the platform’s growing credibility, niche relevance, and the unique value we offer to readers and collaborators alike.

If your brand or outlet shares these values, we’d love to explore ways we can work together.

Ways to collaborate

I offer expert contributions to media outlets, brands, and organisations seeking psychological insight with warmth, clarity, and depth. Here are some of the ways we can work together:

Expert commentary

I provide quotes, commentary, and psychological framing for features, interviews, and campaigns.

Dear Dr Charlotte Sponsorship

Dear Dr Charlotte is our new psychology‑led advice column exploring the emotional side of travel. Although still in its early stages, it has already been warmly received by our audience, with strong engagement and a growing base of loyal readers who return for thoughtful, evidence‑informed insight. We’re open to exploring values‑aligned sponsorships for this column — partnerships that enhance the reader experience and reflect the reflective, psychologically grounded ethos of our work.

Lectures and workshops

I craft bespoke, thoughtful and credible training for a range of audiences.

Travel industry staff support and debriefing

Burnout is common in the travel industry, and it directly affects how well staff can stay attuned to customers. In healthcare we recognise this openly: caring for people is demanding work, and we put structures in place to support staff so they can provide high‑quality, emotionally intelligent care. In travel, the commercial environment can make it harder to acknowledge that the work carries a similar emotional load.

Most retreats and tours run smoothly, but occasionally everything becomes challenging at once. Group dynamics can shift quickly, and even experienced leaders can find themselves managing conflict, distress, or unexpected crises. These rare but intense situations can impact staff wellbeing, confidence, and enthusiasm for their work.

In healthcare, we manage this through structured debriefing and reflective practice. As someone with experience in both sectors, I offer psychologically informed support for travel providers — from post‑retreat debriefs to reflective practice models that help reduce burnout and strengthen staff resilience.

Psychological consultation

I offer consultation for brands and organisations seeking to embed psychological insight into their work — from trauma-informed retreat design to wellbeing strategy.

Media Policy – Expert Input from The Travel Psychologist

My guiding principle: I value contributing to public conversations about psychology and travel. At the same time, my expertise is a professional service. As such, I no longer provide free commentary or quotes as a default unless working with trusted colleagues writing for high authority publications.  For all other requests, my input is treated as consultancy and fees will apply.

She combines professional knowledge with being able to communicate these ideas to a wide audience, and is always a joy to work with.” Caroline Butterwick, Freelance Journalist

“After reading Dr Charlotte Russell’s work and media contributions, I approached her exclusively about collaborating on our national campaign. She was incredibly open from the outset, very approachable and responsive…just a genuine pleasure to work with.  Her insight, contribution, research, and commentary gave real depth and intelligence to the project, providing us with a thoughtful and grounded framework for the campaign. The material she selected was highly relevant and valuable. She brought up aspects of our topic that I wouldn’t have thought of, opening new ways of approaching a familiar yet largely unexplored subject”. Hot House Digital

When I’m researching and writing a story that touches, even tangentially, on matters of travel, human emotion, and the mind, Dr. Charlotte Russell is the first person I reach out to for thoughtful, expert opinions laced with both science-backed knowledge and a genuine understanding of how and why we move about the world. She’s been an invaluable resource who’s helped to elevate my work, making it more profound and impactful.” – Jeff Bogle, Freelance Writer
